Students at Alliance Charter Elementary school in grades 1, 2, and 3 have been doing an author study about Jan Brett. We've learned many interesting things about this author including her fascination with hedgehogs.

Most of our students knew very little about this cute creature, even though one of our teachers even has one as a classroom pet! For instance, many students thought hedgehogs were related to porcupines, and were quite surprised to find out they are more closely related to moles!

While reading Jan Brett's book Armadillo Rodeo, students learned that she always does a lot of research for her stories. Students in grades 1 and 2 researched information about hedgehogs to share with Jan Brett. Their informational book is below.

Grade three students took inspiration from learning that Brett researched for Armadillo Rodeo by reading T is for Texas. Our students created their own W is for Wisconsin book on the off-chance that Jan Brett will write a story set in Wisconsin some day!
